LeARn: Bringing school manuals to life with Augmented Reality

About

LeARn is a prototype mobile application developed by X2 Mobile that uses augmented reality to enhance the learning experience for students. By scanning images in a school manual, the app transforms them into short videos that provide a more interactive and engaging explanation of key concepts.

Context

At X2 Mobile, we are passionate about innovation and education. Each year, we hold a hackathon to foster creative thinking and encourage the development of new tools and solutions for the education industry. In the 2022 HAX2 hackathon, our focus was on Augmented Reality, and the winning team came up with the idea for LeARn.

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the way we learn and work, and the education industry is no exception. Our challenge was to develop new solutions that embrace the potential of AR/VR technology to support connected learning in the post-pandemic world.

Solution

LeARn is a mobile application that uses the device camera to scan images in a school manual and play corresponding videos that provide additional details and explanations. The aim of the solution is to make learning more interactive and engaging by using motion pictures.

Key results

We have demoed LeARn at several events such as Hannover Messe 2022, GITEX 2022, and London EdTech Week 2022, and the feedback from educators and students has been overwhelmingly positive.
